The Unknown Discovery

As I reached in my shirt pocket this morning, a whirlwind of feelings engulfed me. I pulled out my hand to find the shredded lint of what used to be...well...I'm not sure.

My mind raced back to the last time I remember wearing this shirt...

It could have been a receipt for my $1.99 coffee that morning. Which, by the way, I'm glad they gave me a receipt. You know, in case I wanted to return the coffee.

Maybe it was a lottery ticket. Was it a winner? I'm pretty sure it wasn't. Still, I would have been more at ease finding a shredded $1 bill.

Was it a business card? Oh crap, now I'll never know who to call when I need my puppy groomed or my life savings of $167.25 invested.

Most likely it was one of the million "To Do" lists that I make for myself on an almost daily basis. I'll probably continue to make these lists and then ignore everything on them (maybe #1 on that destroyed piece of paper was Stop Making Lists).

Well, I've probably given more thought to what might have been in my pocket than its actual worth. I'm sure some day I'll be in my workshop, putting the finishing touches on my time machine, and I'll decide to go back in time and leave myself a note in that shirt. The note will warn me of events which will prevent me from ever achieving time travel. Shit.
